This week
as it is Thanksgiving, we discovered a 5th
grade class that rearranged their tables to reflect a
large dinner table and each give state what they are
thankful for. So from all of us here at Cedar Heights,
Happy Thanksgiving!

East Community Learning Center
 |
The students at
the East Community Learning Center enjoyed a "Take your Parent
to After School" Tailgate Mich/OSU tailgate party on Friday Nov.
20. Students and families enjoyed face painting, corn hole,
music, and crafts. the participants of the after school program
enjoyed a family meal with a special treat of cookies provided
by the WASC board. Leading up to the special day, students were
using their estimating skills by guessing how many candies were
in the jar. There were four jars of various sizes that contained
scarlet and gray M and M's, Green and white M & M's, Resses
peanut butter cups, and a huse jar of gummy bears. The winners
were from L to R: Blake Roby, Ashtien Bales (Jennifer Bales),
Alexis Speakman, Ondreya Disbennett.

At the Tallmadge CLC,
Andrea from Slate Run Metro Park visited us to talk about pollution and
the effects it has on our environment. Our HEROES (Brian, Courtney and
Chase) posed with Mr. Lawson and cheered for a Buckeye Victory over the
team from up north.

Children's Author Margaret Wolford (Newark,
Ohio) will be visiting our centers in November and December
No Sugar Coating
by Margaret Wolford
"Alana thinks keeping a journal is just one more boring assignment until
she realizes her life is anything but dull! Who really is Janamarie? Why
does Kimmie act so strangely outside of school? Is making mashed
potatoes that big of deal? Join Alana in No Sugar Coating as she solves
a mystery or two, learns a lesson about friendship, and endures her
mother's terrible cooking. A journal that at first seemed like a dumb
idea becomes a place to record the mysterious, wonderful, and sometimes
painful happenings in ten-year-old Alana Davis' life. No Sugar Coating
may be her first journal, but it won't be her last."

Look for our
after-school program site directors as they play "musical chairs"
in the next couple weeks visiting each other's programs. The purpose of
these planned, rotating visits is to share ideas and best practices and
allow time for on-site observation and consultation. We know all
our programs will be better as a result - and we always welcome
visitors! |

eligibility guidelines. Households may not receive duplication of
