18th Annual Early Childhood Conference

Presented by the FAMILY, ADULT & CHILDREN FIRST COUNCIL & THE CHILDREN’S COMMITTEE

REGISTRATION INFORMATION:  Registration is $35 for ALL AEYC members (Member # IS required) and $45 for non-members.

 

The Electronic Classroom of Tomorrow will visit the WASC for the next 10 days, beginning Monday, March 16, as they complete testing for their students. Please help us create an optimal testing environment for our guests.

Look Inside the After School Programs in Lancaster This Week
 

Cedar Community Learning Center

 

This week wanted to feature one of our students enrolled in  the after school program. Cortez Chapman has been with the program since November of 2008. He is in first grade. Cortez loves to play outside, loves to play basketball, and enjoys reading on his own. Cortex is certainly one child you should know and be ready to spend a great deal of energy keeping up with him.

 
 

Eastside Center for Success

This week at the Eastside CFS, in addition to the usual curricular rotations, Art Academic Coach, Ashly Draper, introduced our students to elements of art - line, spaces, color combinations, and much, much more.

 

Tallmadge Community Learning Center

 

These Tallmadge Community Learning Center students enjoy a recent warm day on the playground. Each day, weather permitting, the students begin their afterschool program hours with some outdoor physical activity. If the weather does not cooperate, games are played in the school gym. Following the physical activity, a snack is served and then the rotations in math, reading and homework begin.
 

West After School Center

.

This week the students at the West After School Center are getting ready for St. Patrick’s Day. They have made shamrock wall hangings, leprechaun bracelets and have decorated cutout sugar cookies made by our cook, Ann Purcell. What a fun way to end a busy week.

 
 

 

MEAL PROGRAMS at the WASC

Busy parents can take advantage of the availability of supper at the WASC, Cedar Heights, and Tallmadge, Monday-Friday, throughout the year.  The snacks we serve are free, and the supper program (5:30-6:00 pm) is open to any child in our programs or others that would sign up for supper, based on qualification requirements similar to the school lunch program. The WASC is the sponsor of the snacks and meal programs for the after school programs serving children at East, West, Cedar Heights, and Tallmadge.

Our Goals:

1.  Create and sustain a community dialogue and awareness campaign that helps every individual learn to make healthy choices about what and how much they eat as well as how much daily exercise they get. 

2.  Encourage children to engage in healthy and productive extra curricular activities at home and at school.

3.  Teach families how to prepare meals and economical family meals and snacks.

4.  Showcase the wealth of community resources and personnel that can help kids and families develop healthy lifestyles.

5.  Demonstrate the positive impact and benefits that participation in before and after school programs can have on children's mental health and social development.
