Cedar Community Learning Center

Before the holidays arrive and everyone is off
from the busy school schedule and celebrating
the season, there is an important meeting on
Teen Violence being held on Wednesday December
16, 2009. There will be a town hall meeting in
Columbus on the 16th and it is
important to know that while the issue may not
affect many of our programs, we all need to keep
in mind the reality of teen violence. Mr. Moses
Garcia, Site Director from Cedar CLC, will
attend a roundtable with other Columbus
providers on this matter, prior to the town hall
evening event. If you would like further

One of the goals for the Cedar CLC is to raise
awareness about the issue, not just to the Cedar

East Community Learning Center
 |
The East
Community Learning Center students were entertained by
Ronald McDonald on Friday, Dec. 4th. Ronald McDonald was
there to educate the after school students (in a fun way!)
about the importance of reading, building self confidence
and getting active. Ronald used magic, music and fun
to focus on friendship, cooperation, anti-bullying and
active play for both the body and the soul. Staff member
Liz Flowers was drafted as part of the show. It was an
excellent opportunity for the after school students and
everyone was impressed by Ronald McDonald!

Tallmadge Community Learning Center
 |
At Tallmadge last
week we had art week with Ashley Draper. We made snowflakes and
penguins to take home and decorate for the holidays. We also had a
dietitian, Susan, visit us from the Fairfield Medical Center. She
taught us about the food pyramid and making better choices with our
eating habits. In addition, we would like to congratulate Teri and
Rilee as they were our HEROES of the week.

West After School Center
 |
The students at WASC enjoyed a visit from author Margaret Wolford. Mrs.
Wolford discussed how
and why she started writing after she retired from teaching. She also
discussed the illustrations of her book, "No Sugar Coating." Mrs.
Wolford has completed three additional books in the series and is
looking to have them published soon as a set.
The West After School
Center students spent time making decorations on Friday for the
Christmas tree at the Center. They all made a portrait of themselves as
an angel and learned how to make an older craft called a God's Eye. Stop
in and see their beautiful work displayed on our Christmas tree.

Ohio) will be visiting our centers in November and December

may be her first journal, but it won't be her last."

What: Tallmadge After
School students will become community HEROES as they help the Lancaster
City Firefighters wrap dozens of Christmas presents for the charity
Lancaster Firefighters Toys for Kids! On Friday at 4:00pm, Lancaster
City Firefighters, Principal Brian Lawson, students, parents and
teachers will gather to wrap the gifts that are generously donated. For
children of all ages, please drop off donations to any local fire
department or at Tallmadge Elementary. |
